Location
Gärtnerstraße in Friedrichshain leads from Simplonstraße to Boxhagener Straße, past the lively Boxhagener Platz -- famous far beyond the district boundaries as the epicenter of the Friedrichshain scene. When people talk about Friedrichshain in Berlin, they mean the area here, around Boxhagener square. This is the heart of Friedrichshain's neighborhood life: Restaurants and bars line the square, and the weekend second-hand market is one of the most interesting in the city. If you want to go out, don't miss the neighboring Simon-Dach-Straße, which is home to legendary bars, cafés and clubs such as the Astro-Bar and the iconic 70s-style Intimes cinema, which has been around since 1933. At the end of Simon-Dach-Straße, you reach Revaler Straße, where the former Reichsbahn repair site (RAW) is home to a wide variety of exciting and delicious culinary spots. A few steps further, you reach Osthafen, which has become the capital's most important location for fashion, music and private television. In the other direction, you quickly reach Frankfurter Allee, which becomes Karl-Marx-Allee once you pass the imposing Frankfurter Tor. Its wedding cake-style buildings are among Berlin's most impressive cultural monuments. To the west is the lively Warschauer Straße and, on the other side of Warschauer Brücke, you reach the Uber Arena with its great sports and music events. All of this is excellently connected to the rest of the city by underground and suburban trains. You couldn't live closer to the hub of the new Berlin. But as is typical of Berlin, there are down-to-earth corners in the middle of this vibrant district. These are places not just for living, but for really living well. One of these special corners is right here, in Gärtnerstraße.
